A fresh start….

I’m not one of those people who make New Year’s resolutions.  I decided years ago there was no sense in my making a promise to do something I had no intention of following through on.

Instead, I make lists.

These are things I should already be doing (and probably I am to some extent), but they are things I should concentrate on even more.  For instance:

1) Read my Bible more.

I read scripture daily, but with my busy life, I rarely make the effort to sit down and read large chunks of it at a time.  By not allowing myself the time to do this, I’m missing out on some of the greatest stories ever written.  Sure, I’ve read the Bible through – cover to cover – several times in my life; that’s not the point.  I NEED to read the Word more.  I’m not feeding my mind and soul enough of God’s Word if I’m not reading it more.  There is so much there I still need to learn about Him and there’s no better place to learn than the Bible.

2) Spend more time with my family.

I love my husband and my kids and grand-kids more than I can say.  God has blessed me with a wonderful family and I want to spend as much time with them as I can.  Time goes by way too fast and I don’t want to miss out on any of it if I can help it.

3) Use the gifts that God has given me.

This one is HUGE.  I’ve only become convinced in the last year or so that God has actually given me gifts – writing novels being one of them.  For several years I ignored God’s calling and did nothing with this gift.  I have to tell you, I was miserable.  I will not ignore God’s calling again.  I’m going to complete the novel I’m working on, and hopefully write at least one more during 2013.  At least, that’s what’s on my list!  🙂

As we look forward to the New Year of 2013, let us keep our minds and our eyes on God.   I can’t think of a better way to start it!

“Lead me in thy truth, and teach me; for thou art the God of my salvation; on these do I wait all the day.”  Psalm 25:5

Happy New Year!
